The new .UK Domains

Published 16 June 2014

The new shorter, sharper domain for UK based sites is now here!

The .uk is a shorter, sharper, snappier and smarter alternative to a .co.uk domain. It shows your visitors that you are located in the UK and as it’s shorter, it’s easier to write and easier to remember than a .co.uk. This new extension also brings us in line with other large country-code registries such as .fr for France and .de for Germany, joining the rest of the world.

The .uk is set to become the new standard for UK based websites so make sure you grab yours now.

There are no restrictions on .uk registrations which means that anyone can register one. What’s more if you already have a .co.uk, .org.uk or .me.uk web address, for a limited time your equivalent .uk domain is reserved for you!

Wow, did .uk really come into the game this late. Registrars must have been busy!

How about, do you know if you still need to verify your domain contact information with a utility bill/ID? That’s the only annoying thing about *.uk domains from my past experience.

    Regards,
    Tim
